Dress Code

Parents and students should maintain the following standards, spirit and intent when considering the topic of dress:  Modesty and a good Christian example should be the rule to follow as not to distract from a positive learning environment.

Make up your mind not to put any stumbling block in your brother’s way…Let us make every effort to do what leads to mutual edification…It is better not to do anything that will cause your brother to fall.” Rom 14.

This applies to CCA classrooms and campus activities as well as any CCA fieldtrips and functions scheduled off campus.

Parents are responsible to make sure that their student comes to CCA dressed appropriately.  CCA reserves the right to call any parent whose student has violated the dress code.  The parent will be asked to either take the student home to re-dress or bring a change of clothes to the school.  Depending on the situation, a student may be asked to remain in the office area and/or to put on a large t-shirt over their clothes and return to attend class, until the situation is remedied.  The staff reserves the right to serve as final authority over questions of dress.

Appropriate attire:

-      Shirts – All shirts, sweaters and sweatshirts must be clean and in good repair. No shirts with any writing (other than a Crossroads logo) can be worn. No mesh shirts or muscle shirts are allowed. Girls’ shirts must be loose fitting, not skin tight and must completely cover the midriff, shoulders, undergarments and cleavage at al times, including when the wearer is bending over or reaching upward.  All shirts should be neat in appearance.

-      Jeans/Pants – Jeans and pants must be in good repair with no holes and modest in style and fit.  Undergarments should not be able to be seen if your shirt is lifted above your natural waistline.  The style of your jeans should be such that they fit at the natural waistline. Please keep your pants up to your natural waist line. A belt must be worn if the slacks do not stay fitted at the natural waistline to keep your undergarments covered.

-      Walking shorts – Walking shorts are allowed if they are modest in style, length and fit.  The style of the walking shorts should be such that they fit at the natural waistline.  All undergarments must be covered at all times.  The hem of the shorts should be no shorter than at three to four inches above the knee.

-      Dresses/Skirts for girls – The top portion of all dresses must meet the standards set for shirts (see above.)  The hem of the skirt length should be no shorter than at three to four inches above the knee.

-      Footwear – Tennis or basketball shoes, non-marking shoes, boots, clogs and sandals are appropriate. For safety, shoelaces should be kept laced up and tied at all times.

Inappropriate attire:

-      Hats are not to be worn inside

-      Short-shorts or cut-off pants

-      Excessively tight fitting or baggy, low riding pants, shorts or jeans

-      No blouses that show a bare midriff, are tube-type, low-cut, off shoulder, sleeveless, spaghetti strap or show undergarments

-      No visible tattoos.

-      Jewelry should not be excessive.  We encourage you to keep it minimal and it may not be spiked, punk or rebellious in nature.  If any jewelry or adornments get in the way, or become a distraction during a classroom activity, the student will be asked to remove it.

Hair:

-      Girls’ hair should be clean, feminine, not shaven (unless for medical reasons), and kept out of the eyes.  Any change of hair color should be made only to another natural hair color.  No gothic, punk, rock or spiked styles.  Adornments should not be distracting and minimal in number.

-      Boys’ hair should be kept clean and cut above the collar.  Hair must not get in the way of seeing student’s eyes. No shaven patches.  All facial hair must be kept either cleanly shaven or even and neatly trimmed.  Any change of hair color should be made only to another natural hair color.  No gothic, punk, rock or spiked styles.
